Guides note
On your days up here together with us and our dogs you will learn how to handle and train Alaska Huskies with our guides. You will be a part of 50 happy and social Huskies and a litter of puppies born in the autumn. We use a four-wheel motorbike for training, or if we have early winter we take the sleds. After the training of the dogs and lunch we go out on different activities (see below). In the evening you can join on our daily walk with the puppies and join our evening chores with the dogs.
You have the wilderness and our beautiful nature just outside the door and it’s always there for you – day and night. Lapland is beautiful and inspiring!
In November the autumn is over and the winter is arriving. The lakes are starting to freeze up and the temperature is around + - 0 to - 15 C during the day.
Arrival
When you arrive in Lapland, Hemavan airport, you will go by car the last 80 km to Umnäs. The first thing we will do in Umnäs is to go and say hello to the dogs. After that we will have dinner at host home or something lighter like sandwich (lunch) depending on what time you arrive. We also take a look on what gear and clothes you need to borrow from us. We talk about your days up here in Lapland. All the nights you will sleep in a nice Swedish home near your host and the dog yard.
Day 2
You eat breakfast in your house around 8.00. Around 9.00 a clock we meet in the dog yard for feeding and taking care of the dogs. Now we will have a lecture time in “how to drive” a team of dogs and harnessing the dogs. Now we put the dogs on the pulling line and go out on our training tour, you will sit beside your guide on a 4-wheel motorbike (or drive your own sled if we have snow enough). After the training we eat a nice lunch and in the afternoon you have free time this first day or together with the dogs and our guides. Served dinner and overnight in your house.
Day 3
The time before lunch looks like day 2. You will now start to recognise some of the dogs and maybe also find a favourite one. On some parts of the track you can try to drive the 4-wheel motorbike together with the guide. (if you not are standing on a sled)
This afternoon we will go and visit a reindeer farm and Sami family in Ängesdal. Here you will learn about the reindeers and the culture of the Sami people. You will also hear a traditional jojk (Sami song) from our Sami guide. Served dinner and overnight in your house in Umnäs.
Day 4
The time before lunch looks like day 3.
In the afternoon we go hiking and if we have snow we walk with snowshoes or maybe you like to try some cross country skiing. If you like downhill skiing we can go to Tärnaby if the slopes are open (ski pass and rental skis not included). Served dinner and over night in your house in Umnäs.
Day 5
The time before lunch looks like day 3.
Today you can choose to go fishing (ice fishing or from a boat), riding, do some hiking or just lie down and read a nice book. Tonight we eat a three course dinner in our home and talk about our days together.
Departure day
Breakfast in your house. After breakfast we go out to say goodbye to the dogs. We will eat lunch, write the guest book and mark the maps over your days in the wilderness (if you like).
